ImagiNation XL
French Philosopher Gilles Deleuze stated in ‘Desert Islands’ that “the essence of the deserted island is imaginary and not actual, mythological and not geographical.” Sealand’s existence as a sovereign state is kept alive in the imagination only, and its constant reproduction of myth-value uploads it with actuality and with presence in the contemporary world. Imagination is the mental escape, that Sealand tries to perform in the physical world. Sealand is potentially wrong in this: its potential lies not just in a physical claim, but in the mental imagination one has with a place like Sealand. Sealand is an ImagiNation.
Based on the visual aesthetics of the 1960's popular
fractal images, this ImagiNation shirt, for him, communicates a subliminal message. It refers to Fifth World nations, micronations, Sealand and kitsch mysterious nations such as Atlantis.
